Dr. Mable Springfield Scott aka 'Able Mable' is a 70-year-old grandmother who retires and finally has time to reminisce how her southern, segregated community survived challenging times, racism, bigotry, and Jim Crow. Families, schools, and churches worked together with a village mentality that promoted educational excellence, respect, responsibility, reverence for God, confidence, and consequences. Great expectations were ingrained in children's hearts, minds, and souls to succeed and make impossible dreams come true.

Youngsters were sheltered in many ways from the true, hurtful pains of life in an unequal society where you had to work twice as hard to merely stay in the race and stay afloat during regimented, segregated storms that brought the blues every day for those living in government projects. But the rainbow that brought joy, love, and happiness was the strong spiritual component that saved and rescued just like the Children of Israel. The Black Church, Holy Bible, and God became the structure, anchor, and hope for a better tomorrow!

Religious, spiritual, open-minded, change agent, mover­shaker leaders are seeking solutions to save cities, towns, and communities. Here's what worked then and could work again. Care, concern, and compassion vs. just money, materialism, and me/my can create viable, long-lasting, generational sustainability! We survived because our unity made our commUNITY!
